Candle Care Tips

Although candles help you relax and unwind, their open flame can be hazardous if not maintained properly. We want to make sure that you understand how to successfully and safely burn your candles, so please take a moment to read the guidelines we’ve provided for you below.

Before Burning

In preparation for burning your candle, please ensure that your candle is far from any flammable items. Please trim the wick at least ¼ inch to prevent uneven burning, sooting, or flaring. Burn for no more than 3 -4 hours for each time you light the candle. This will allow the candle to burn evenly. Always remember to trim your candle wick before each burn. This will ensure that the wax remains clean and burning nicely.
Never leave a candle unattended. Please extinguish all candles before leaving the room, your home, or sleeping.
Do not move or touch a burning candle. The wax is liquified, this will put you at risk for spills and burns.
Do not burn your candle to the bottom. For your safety, please leave ¼ inch of wax in the vessel to prevent a fire.
Keep candles out of reach of children and pets to avoid candles being knocked over.
Do not burn multiple candles at one time. If you do, please ensure that they are at least three inches apart from one another. This will ensure that your candles do not melt or create their own drafts.
If flame becomes too high or repeatedly flickers, please extinguish the candle. Before lighting again, allow the candle to cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts.

When Extinguishing

When extinguishing a candle, if available, use a candle snuffer. It is the safest way to prevent splattering and burn exposure. Do not place the lid over the candle to extinguish the flame.
Do not use water to extinguish a candle.
Do not touch or move a recently extinguished candle. Please allow the candle to completely cool.
Before leaving a candle, make sure the flame is out completely.

Note

Candle wax has a memory. This means that your candle remembers where it was burnt to on that first burn and will only ever burn up to the point it was last extinguished. Please allow your top surface to melt completely and evenly before extinguishing to experience the highest performance from your City Girl candle.
